Perched near the source of the Blessed River, the 'Welshrine was originally simply a small shrine near the Welsprings – which were hallowed as far back as the Rayaakin times for their clear waters, therapeutic value, and religious significance. The castle (and the shrine within its walls) sits among a few of these springs, and its unassailable supply of water allowed it to famously withstand siege in the War of the Pale Brothers for four years. House Welshrine was killed to a man after the castle fell; it is now held by a cadet branch of the powerful House Shael.
